2010 - Firefighter/Paramedic Testing

Thank you for your interest in the position of Firefighter/Paramedic with the Village of Buffalo Grove. The first phase of the selection process is completion of an application (available in January 2010) and the attendance at an orientation meeting in April 2010. Your participation at this meeting is a required part of the process and you must bring your completed application to the orientation meeting. Two have been scheduled; you may attend the meeting that best suits your schedule. They will be held at Buffalo Grove Village Hall Council Chambers, 50 Raupp Boulevard., Buffalo Grove on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 9:00am and on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 7:00pm.

In addition to the orientation meeting, the selection process consists of a, CPAT Certification not older than six months, a written examination, and an oral interview (for those eligible). (The Northern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) and Southwest United Fire Districts (SUFD) are licensed administrators of the CPAT. The cost of the Candidate-Funded CPAT test is approximately $99 to the candidate.

Please note that the certification of the CPAT exam cannot be older than six months prior to the date of the written exam which is scheduled for May 8, 2010).

Persons who successfully complete the entire testing process will be placed on an eligibility roster, in the order that they scored on their tests with claim of allowable preference points. When vacancies develop on the fire department, eligibles will be asked to submit to a background and credit investigation, polygraph and psychological examinations, and a comprehensive medical examination. Persons who pass these tests will be appointed probationary firefighter/paramedics.
